My favorite things...

Rather than continue to bitch and moan about my aches and pains (not really appropriate behavior for a happy, glowing pregnant woman, right?), let's take a look at some of the things I am loving this week:

1. Hubby - Seriously, I am so lucky to have him in my life. He loves me and takes care of me and puts up with me when I am being difficult. I fall a little more in love with him every day.

2. My Snoogle - Of course I don't love my Snoogle more than my hubby, but it's close. Who cares that it was 50 bucks? Comfortable, uninterrupted sleep=priceless.

3. Tiramisu cake - One of the most wonderful baked goods on the planet.

4. Bon Jovi - Especially vintage Bon Jovi. Driving home from work on a beautiful day, with the sunroof open and the radio blaring, singing along to "Never Say Goodbye." Awesome.

5. Pizza - Need I say more?

*%$&#@!

Oh my Lord. The pain!

Now, I think that I have handled this pregnancy very well: no morning sickness, no cravings, not too hormonal, no major weight gains, that type of thing.

Well, all of my "perfect pregnancy" bragging has come back to bite me in the ass. (Or maybe God is just out to get me after I admitted to hubby that I like Justin Timberlake's "SexyBack.") Anyway.

About a week or so ago, my legs began to feel a little sore - like I had worked out a bit too much. Nothing too uncommon, just need to take it easy. By Sunday, I was having pretty substantial leg pain, enough to have problems getting in and out of the car. By Monday, I was having trouble walking. Seriously. Not good.

Monday night comes around and I am alternating between shuffling around like a little old lady and actually walking with my left leg dragging behind me, a la Frankenstein. Which made me hysterical - which makes things worse. If I were a horse, hubby would've taken me out back and shot me, that's how crippled I felt.

Tuesday morning, I had a doctor appointment (everything is great, by the way). After telling the doctor about this leg pain, she mentioned that it is probaby due to pressure on my sciatic nerve. At first I wasn't convinced - after all, it hurt too much to be the sciatic nerve, right? But the doctor assured me that it can be painful enough to bring one to tears.

Okay, no problem. Just tell me the cure and I will take care of it. At that point she tells me there is no way to cure it - I just need to wait until my body decides to move again. Are you frigging kidding me? It is 2006 - we can find a cure for erectile dysfunction, but we are making the poor pregnant woman limp around for weeks? Not cool.

So, I am just taking it day by day, praying to the little one inside of me and the pregnancy gods that everything shifts - and fast. In the meantime, I will take any old wives tale or super-secret cure for this pain... any suggestions are welcome.

Trust me, when you have dreams about getting prescriptions for Naproxen with your friends at Target, you know you need help.

Joy ride...

Hubby and I headed downstate today to spend time with my sister-in-law, brother-in-law and our nephews. Long story short, we had a great time. The boys have gotten so big. And I couldn't get over their new, stylin' haircuts - they are looking like the pre-teens they are.

The oldest is 11 and loved the Abercrombie gift card we bought him for his birthday (my God, I remember when he was 4 years old - crazy). He also showed off his new Razor phone - kinda sad that he has a nicer phone than us (and kinda made me feel like a loser for wanting a pink one).

It was a busy day. Hubby played with them on the trampoline, we had a nice lunch, then went to the park - batting cages, mini golf and a driving range. Fun times.

The not-so-fun time? Getting there and back. Six-and-a-half hours total. The ride down wasn't bad; it was the horrific ride home. Situation 1: there was a major accident on the Tappan Zee bridge, bumper-to-bumper traffic and only one lane open. So we decided to take an alternate route. Situation 2: Detour by taking the Cross Bronx to the GW, into NJ, and back into NY. Sounded great - until we got onto the Cross Bronx and found out that an accident had just taken place and traffic was backed up for miles and miles. Ugh. Back to the Tappan Zee.

The final route? Cross Bronx to the Bronx River Parkway to the Sprain Brook Parkway (didn't even know that existed) to the Tappan Zee to Albany... to home. Ahhh.

(By the way, hubby and I entertained ourselves by referring to the Sprain Brook Parkway as "the Sprain," which reminded us of the episode of Saved by the Bell where Lisa Turtle and Screech win the dance competition at the Max, even though Lisa was on crutches, by inventing a new dance - the Sprain. Guest star Kasey Kasem.)

News flash!

Since I am pregnant, I know that my blog should be filled with the trials and tribulations of expectant mommyhood - and it will be, eventually. Don't worry, in the coming weeks I plan to give commentary regarding all the fun stuff, including:
  • The apparant need for people to share their pregnancy horror stories (which usually start with, "So-and-so has this friend that....")
  • Food cravings - and aversions (also known as, how did I turn against my beloved hamburgers?)
  • Dealing with weight gain... especially when others are telling you how they didn't even look pregnant or gain wait until they were a million months along

However, this has been a big news day in the world, and I would be remiss not making mention of some of today's breaking stories:

1. Jon-Benet Ramsey: after 10 years, they have finally arrested someone in connection with the killing - and it wasn't a famiy member. A cloud of suspicion has hung over her parents for the past decade (I'll admit it, I thought that they had to know something about it), and now the truth comes out. What a crazy story - the only thing that I can think is how that little girl would be in high school if she was still alive.

2. Kate Hudson and Chris Robinson announced their separation - and now it is being reported that she is seeing her "You, Me and Dupree" costar, Owen Wilson. I KNEW IT! They just looked way too cozy together during their promotional interviews. Another Hollywood couple down the tubes.

Hope that everyone is having a great week - God knows that Chris Robinson probably isn't.

Three... it's a magic number...

At least it is for us!

Hubby and I are expecting a new addition to our family.

The little one is scheduled to arrive on January 31, 2007.

Later!

No, I am not taking a break. :-)

Instead, I am being sent to my parents' this weekend (with the pups), while hubby and his friends swim, play golf, drink scary amounts of alcohol and watch "Old School" over and over at our house.

And since my parents do not live in the 21st century, there will be no Internet for me - all weekend. Boo.

I'll be sure to check in on Sunday night, while hubby and I watch the premieres of Celebrity Fit Club and Flava of Love.

Have a great weekend!

Because nobody wants to read another post about the weather...

For those of you who are not pop culture junkies, today is MTV's 25th birthday.

Considering the fact that I was only 4 years old when "Video Killed the Radio Star" first aired on August 1, 1981, I think that it is pretty pathetic that I am no longer part of their target demographic... makes me feel old.

Anyway, I can't think of a single thing I still watch on MTV, with the exception of My Super Sweet 16 - such a guilty pleasure.

I still remember the first time I ever watched MTV. My brother and I were at our Nana's house (we didn't have cable TV in the 80s') and the video for Chicago's "Stay the Night" came on. A car driving through a billboard - what could possibly be cooler?

I LOVED MTV in high school. Not only did they actually play videos, but there was also Beavis & Butthead and Daria, two awesome shows (I always wanted to be Quinn, Daria's flaky younger sister).

In college, we watched Singled Out, the Real World and that annoying Jesse winning the MTV VJ contest, but I wasn't all that into TRL or anything like that.

Now? I yearn for the good old days, with "Remote Control" and Kurt Loder and actual videos.

For those of us looking to relive 1981, VH1 Classic is playing Day 1 of MTV all day today. However, it is sponsored by Old Navy, and the commercials are pretty distracting.

Anyway, happy birthday MTV! Just wish I was invited to the party.
