Adventures in Banking

Hubby, my mom and I went down to Albany today for the annual Apple Festival... lots of fun.

Of course, I needed to stop for money, but our usual ATM was out of order, so we decided to stop at the bank near my mom's house. It was one of those lobby ATM machines, not a drive-through, so I jumped out of the car while my mom and hubby waited inside. I had a check that needed to be cashed as well, but we were kinda in a hurry, so I figured that I could do that some other time.

Anyway, I am waiting for my transaction to be processed, and someone comes up to the front door (the one that leads from the lobby to the actual bank) - and locks it. Okay.... When I got back to the car, we talked about it for a few minutes on our way to Albany, but quickly forget about it.

Later that afternoon, we drive by the bank - only to see it surrounded by police cars and caution tape. Yeah - turns out that I practically walked into a bank robbery... crazy, huh?

Never a dull moment...

Yum!

Guess what I had for dinner? A hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes.

Her post on comfort foods earlier this week inspired me.

So, please tell - what are your favorite comfort foods?

In case 90 days is too long to wait...

QVC is having their "Countdown to Christmas" show all day today.

Right now, I am watching a demonstration of the holiday light string tester and repair kit, and I am intrigued. It's a sickness, I know.

Thank God hubby is at basketball...

McNugget update...

Now, I know that you are all waiting anxiously to hear the latest on McNugget, right?

Anyway, I went in for my monthly appointment yesterday and all is well. Got to hear the heartbeat and the doctor checked out how much I have grown with a measuring tape (nothing but the most high-tech measurement devices, huh - seriously, what's that all about?).

We also finally picked out our crib and nursery furniture. That was quite an ordeal. Process was as follows: check out Babyland, Babies-R-Us, Pottery Barn Kids; spend hours online doing research and reading reviews; purchase Consumer Reports Online to obtain more crib data; look at Baby Depot, DiSiena's, Huck Finn's Warehouse.... and end up back at Babyland, where we picked out the entire set in 5 minutes. Phew. It was crazy, but we are proud of ourselves.

Daycare has also been a top priority. Hubby looked at 4 or 5 places on his own and asked me to check out his top choices. Now I have an appointment tomorrow AM to visit one place, but I am hoping that it is better than the other center... I visited it yesterday and seriously left feeling stressed out. The person who was supposed to give me the tour went out for lunch, so nobody was expecting me. It seemed like everyone was screaming at once, two little kids were playing with a bouncy ball that looked like a choking hazard, and there was some little girl calmly sitting there for 10 minutes before either of the teachers noticed she was covered in spit-up. Bleh. I know that everyone has bad days, and maybe I am expecting too much, but that just seemed unacceptable to me.

Finally, we are planning on registering soon and have done lots of research on what we need to buy, but we are always looking for more opinions. So fill me in:

1. What products/brands did you purchase and what did you think (love them/hate them)? (stroller, car seat, pack-and-play, bassinett, high chair, etc.)
2. What items did you find to be "must haves"?
3. What items did you think you couldn't live without, but ended up not being used that much?

God... who knew that being a parent would require all this responsibility?!?

Super Saturday

Today was a beautiful day here in upstate NY - temps in the high 70s, clear skies. A perfect day for a roadtrip.

Hubby and I drove out to Rhode Island today to visit some friends who are expecting their little one in mid-November. What a nice time - went out for lunch, did some shopping, and caught up on everything that has been going on in our lives. We wanted to get out there this month, since their baby shower is next weekend and we won't be able to make it. It was so much fun.

Although we spent 5+ hours in the car today, it was well worth it. The weather was gorgeous, the trees in the Berkshires are starting to change color, and having Hubby's company all made it a very nice drive.

Best purchase of the day? A tie between my hoodie and matching pants from Mimi Maternity (on sale, of course - I couldn't justify spending almost $100 on something that I will wear for 5 months tops)... and my pretzel from Auntie Anne's. The exciting life I lead...

So, what is everyone doing this weekend?

McNugget happenings...

(You know how some people have cute little nicknames for their unborn children, like Peanut or Pumpkin? Hubby thinks that we should refer to the little one as "McNugget." So anyway...)

Thankfully, since my pregnancy has been so smooth, we only get one ultrasound, one shot to see the little one before his/her birth day. We're going for the ultrasound on Tuesday afternoon, which is very exciting - and a little scary. I am just hoping that everything is perfect and there is nothing to freak me out for the next 20 weeks or so.

If the McNugget cooperates, we will also be able to determine if we are having a little boy or a little girl. Hubby has always been adament about knowing, and although I wanted the element of surprise in the delivery room, I decided to be flexible about it, because it's so important to him. Now I am excited about knowing, and hubby will be fine with it being a surprise. Sigh. Oh well, it is possible that the little one will not cooperate and we will have to wait 20 more weeks to find out. We'll see...

In other news, my belly has really grown over the last few days - I am actually looking even more pregnant. Although I haven't moved into maternity clothes just yet, I have a feeling that I will be by the end of the week. That will be nice.

Finally, do you think that my liberal use of certain curse words is harming the unborn? As long as I say them in a calm, pleasant manner, I should be okay for now, right? Trust me, since I can't take some nice, strong pain-relief drugs, swearing is about the only thing that makes me feel better...
